Quick Update – Summer 2016

Howdy friends!
I wanted to post here quickly to let you know that things are still in the works to get us back online. I don’t have any more information at this time to share. I’m truly just running on hope that this thing can come back around!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Please be safe and feel free to share some pictures of your activities here or on our Facebook page.

Thank you!

Streaming blocked in the USA… and more details

Friends,

After some deep soul searching and looking at all the options, I’ve come to the decision to continue making great radio with America’s Country.

If you were not aware, over the Holidays, the major groups that set the rates for royalties and other such fees have left small webcasters from the US in the dust. Where I was paying less than $150 a month for coverage in 2015, I would be paying more than $5,000 a month in 2016. Thus, the decision to continue broadcasting will have to include electronically blocking any listeners in the United States.

I would be happy to have a deeper, more detailed conversation with anyone who wishes, but suffice it to say, I’m not happy with this. Because I have a passion and love for entertaining and for American Country Music, I will continue in a new attitude of being an ambassador of US Country Music to the rest of the world. There is still hope that something will come about and we will get our reasonable rates restored. It’s not very likely, but I am still hoping for it and if it does happen, I will resume US broadcasting immediately.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Maintenance Planned – 4/5 – and other news

voice_over_gary-owensFriends,

We have some really great upgrades and fixes we need to apply to our main station server. It will require some downtime, but we plan to have a backup server running. Hopefully the transition between will be seamless and we won’t have any actual downtime.

We have a new SSD drive to install, plenty of updates and other tweaks we’ve been holding off on. Ultimately, the main purpose is to make our station more reliable, robust and available.

We’re also making adjustments to our music selection. We’re trying to play even more big hits, more often so you can enjoy listening all day. We are excited to have excellent programming to compliment our already fantastic music selection.

Each weekday, we have The 90s @ Noon and The 90s Drive @ 5. Two full hours of commercial 90s Country hits. On the weekends, we have several shows that bring diversity and excitement to you. On Saturdays, we have two shows that feature and celebrate Texas Country. Also known as Red Dirt, this fun and gritty music plays for two hours at Noon with the CD-Tex Radio show and for another two hours at 7pm on the Texas Country Music Countdown. On Sundays, we have Big Country USA at Noon with two hours of the best country and artist interviews, contests and a lot of fun. At 7pm, The Hot Country Countdown presents the 20 biggest songs in the industry.

We thank you for choosing us. Out of the thousands of Country stations online and on the radio, we’re extremely humbled and honored that you continue to choose us! We welcome and encourage your feedback and ideas. Please comment here or any of our social media pages with anything you’d like to share. Thank you again for being the best fans and friends!

We keep moving and shaking!

movers-and-shakersIt’s official! We’re a full-on, completely legal and legitimate business! We welcome as our owner, SuiteSounds Entertainment, LLC!

Nothing changes as far as what you hear on the station. I just created the LLC to help protect my family and I and ensure all the details are in order to keep us on the air and hopefully keep growing and performing!

This may not seem super exciting to most of you, but I am even more encouraged that we are positioned for continued growth and progression. The internet radio business is still new and as such, can be quite competitive and very unpredictable.

Again, I want to stress that this will change nothing about our station. I haven’t sold it to anyone. It’s now under a parent company and is more protected.

Thank you all for your continued support and love!

New, easier listening!

This day and age, everyone wants things RIGHT NOW! Even on the web, people have shortcuts and favorites so they can get where they want to go with as few clicks as possible. We want that for you too! Previously, we’ve had some interesting ways to listen, but none have been automatic and have required some effort and plenty of clicks. Now, you can click on one play button and through the magic of the innernetz, America’s Country will start playing!

The best thing here is that you don’t even need to install a player! If your browser supports Flash, our new player will just launch when the page is loaded! It also will show you album art and recently played song titles. We also have our traditional links if your setup doesn’t support Flash, but like before, you’ll need to use a player like Winamp or iTunes to listen.

Here’s the only drawback: the Flash player will only play our High Quality 128 kb/s MP3 stream. That means, if your on a mobile device or have a slower internet connection, you may not get the best results and hear skipping or not even have the stream start. We’re willing to bet that most of you already can play a HQ stream (since I know most of you listen on that stream already!) and this will just make life easier for you!

Coming soon we hope to have additional Flash players for our lower bandwidth stream and our AAC stream. Meanwhile, enjoy our new instant-gratification enabled Flash player! As before, just click on that nifty graphical play button on the right and a new page will load that will auto-launch the Flash player! EASY!!

If you run into any problems, please contact us at studio@kxrtonline.com or comment here or on Facebook!

Enjoy!

America’s Country!

As you might have heard or read on Facebook, starting January 1st at midnight, KXRT will begin playing a Hot Country music format and be called America’s Country! Due to the increasing popularity and success of Country music radio, TV and other media, we felt it was our best opportunity to make this change. We’ve been playing a lot of Country music as it was this past year and we feel this is a natural evolution. Research also shows that while the Internet allows for more flexibility and creativity, the same standards hold true: people that like Country music will typically not like Rock or R&B and likewise, people who like Rock or R&B will generally not like Country. We feel like with hot artists such as Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts, there’s a lot of fans out there that will be charged up about a commercial-free, upbeat, Hot Country Internet station.

We will design our playlists with the hot, new Country hits that are topping the charts as the main focus. We will also reach back to the last two decades of big Country hits ad mix them in for variety and fun. You’ll hear Jason Aldean along with Clint Black and Lady A along with Garth Brooks. It will be a lot of fun to listen to for hours while you’re at work or at home. We will keep the tempo hot and not bog you down with a lot of slow, sappy ballads! It will be energetic, upbeat and fun!

We are very excited and charged up about this new direction. 2011 will be a landmark year for KXRT. America’s Country also lends itself to being patriotic. You’ll hear specials on National Holidays like Veteran’s Day, Patriot Day and more. We will continue to broadcast our Country-related weekend programming. We love Stephen Keogh’s ACC Top 20 and I will resume producing the Weekly Top 10. The Timmy LIVE! Show, as previously posted about, will return in some fashion probably in late Q1 2011. I still need to recreate it to match our new format. We will also keep our Sunday LDS music programming.

All of our links and websites will remain the same. This main webpage, the Facebook Page, the Twitters and our email and phone number will all remain as they currently are. The name KXRT will still be referred to but in a more limited fashion. We love the call letters KXRT, but we want to give center stage to our new moniker, America’s Country.

Our plan for the last few days of 2010 will be to keep playing 100% Christmas Music while we tweak and adjust as well as load our server with all the hot, new Country to be ready for our launch on New Year’s! Please be patient as we will be doing a lot of work on things and the stream may go down or have other trouble during this time. We will also be adjusting the sound and you might hear some widely varying sound levels and quality. We’ll try to keep things sounding good, but we wanted to better inform you so you know what you can expect.

Your input and ideas are always welcome! Please contact us through our many ways, email: studio@kxrtonline.com, Phone: 801-788-4916, Facebook comment, Website comment, Tweet: twitter.com/KXRT, any number of ways to reach us. We look forward to hearing from you!

Enjoy the rest of 2010 and we hope to have you listening just after you celebrate the New Year to help us celebrate the launch of America’s Country!

High Quality Listening

Listening Options

We are now offering you three choices for listening to KXRT. There are now options for every situation. Our highest quality streams are the 128 kbps MP3 stream and the 64 kbps AAC+ stream. Both offer CD quality sound (better, we think!) and need a high bandwidth connection to enjoy fully. For home listening, if you have a high-speed or broadband connection, feel free to listen on either of those streams. If you have a sweet new Android or iPhone or something else with at least a 3G connection, you should do fine with either of the AAC+ streams. We offer a 32 kbps stream that will give you great sound with very low network usage. While travelling around town, we recommend sticking with the 32 kbps stream as it provides the most solid connection while your phone moves through differing coverages and really good sound quality!

We don’t recommending listening to the 128 kbps MP3 stream on a mobile device. You will most likely get drop-outs and unreliable performance. Feel free to experiment and see what’s best for your setup and where you are. If you run into trouble, please refer to the How To Listen page, above to solve many issues. If you continue to experience issues, please contact me directly: studio@kxrtonline.com or comment here.

New Countdown Show Premiers 8-14

We just secured a spot to broadcast a new Top 40-style Top 20 countdown! Confused? Well, typically, Top 40 is a name given to a specific format of hit music radio. In the industry it’s also called CHR, or Contemporary Hit Radio. It means that whatever your teenagers are listening to. Artists like Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Boys Like Girls, IYAZ, and many more are your typical fodder for Top 40. On KXRT, we’ve not really gotten too deep into this format as it tends to lean a little rhythmic/R&B for my personal likings but I’ve seen some huge hits and have selectively added them in.

In an effort to improve our Top 40 offerings, I’ve previewed this new weekly Top 20 countdown and it sounds really good. It’s called the Weekend 20. Dakota James is the host and he fits in with the genre perfectly as he is 19 years old. He works at a couple of radio stations as a night host and producer. There isn’t too much yet in the way of internet presence for this show but he has a twitter account at http://twitter.com/weekend20 He is working on a website as well as a Facebook page.

This program will premier this coming Saturday at Noon, Mountain Time. It runs 90 minutes and will follow the DJ Mike show at 8am and the ACC Top 20 at 10am. It’s fast paced, exciting and most importantly, commercial free! Based on the almost real-time ratings from RadioWave Monitor, the Weekend 20 will be a great addition to our weekend programming offerings. We hope you will join us and listen!
