New Countdown Show Premiers 8-14

We just secured a spot to broadcast a new Top 40-style Top 20 countdown! Confused? Well, typically, Top 40 is a name given to a specific format of hit music radio. In the industry it’s also called CHR, or Contemporary Hit Radio. It means that whatever your teenagers are listening to. Artists like Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Boys Like Girls, IYAZ, and many more are your typical fodder for Top 40. On KXRT, we’ve not really gotten too deep into this format as it tends to lean a little rhythmic/R&B for my personal likings but I’ve seen some huge hits and have selectively added them in.

In an effort to improve our Top 40 offerings, I’ve previewed this new weekly Top 20 countdown and it sounds really good. It’s called the Weekend 20. Dakota James is the host and he fits in with the genre perfectly as he is 19 years old. He works at a couple of radio stations as a night host and producer. There isn’t too much yet in the way of internet presence for this show but he has a twitter account at http://twitter.com/weekend20 He is working on a website as well as a Facebook page.

This program will premier this coming Saturday at Noon, Mountain Time. It runs 90 minutes and will follow the DJ Mike show at 8am and the ACC Top 20 at 10am. It’s fast paced, exciting and most importantly, commercial free! Based on the almost real-time ratings from RadioWave Monitor, the Weekend 20 will be a great addition to our weekend programming offerings. We hope you will join us and listen!

Programming Ideas

In an effort to better inform and entertain you, I’d like to discuss an idea that we’ve experimented with in past years. We used to program themed days – for example: we had Boot Scootin’ Thursdays (all Country), Manic Mondays (all 80’s) and Freaky Fridays (all Alternative). I liked doing that as it provided some variety to our normal music rotations.

My question, that I’m opening up for free discussion, is this: Would you enjoy a feature like this again?

There are some things to work out. Will it enhance your listening experience at KXRT? Do you think a feature like this would attract even more listeners? Can this become a positive impact to the overall feel of KXRT? Will the featured days be flexible? Can we come up with more ideas?

Please discuss below, in the Comments section. All input will be read and considered in our final decision which I’d like to make by the end of this week.

Thank you all for your input. I hope this makes you feel like a part of how KXRT is operated.

More New Music!

In our striving to keep KXRT hot and fresh, we’ve just added some more new music along with replacing some poor quality recordings with sparkly clean ones!
We’ve added Kenny Chesney’s Greatest Hits II and a compilation called Let It Rock… 1991.

Greatest Hits II

This greatest hits album release includes 12 previously released singles along with 3 that are either brand new (Out Last Night) or not yet released as singles (I’m Alive (with Dave Mathews) and Be As You Are). We already had some of these hits in our library but they were recorded at a lower quality.

Let It Rock… 1991 is a compilation a lot like the Billboard Top Hits collections that are based on year of release. This beauty includes many precious gems of early 90’s pop hits. These include: Nelson – After The Rain, Everybody Plays the Fool – Aaron Neville and my personal favorite from the era: Gerardo – R-r-r-rico Suave!

These two new additions to our library reinforce why KXRT is truly 100% Hits – 100% Fun!

We hope you enjoy our vast music collection every day right here on KXRT!
