Facebook Updates

fbnotificationsFacebook has been outwardly public about their desire to nearly eliminate the natural spread of posts from Pages. They’ve basically forced Page owners to pay to post. I am all about businesses making money and Facebook is no exception. However, I have problems when something that is essentially marketed as a free platform for sharing and ingesting information is ultimately turning away from that. In this case, there are still some ways we Page owners can help more of our Likers see what we share. One easy way is to have them enable Get Notifications so they will get a red indicator at the top of their Facebook whenever we post something. As the above picture illustrates, this is done by you hovering your mouse over the Liked button and clicking on Get Notifications. A check will appear to let you know this feature is enabled. Once you’ve done this, you’ll start being notified when we post something. This is pretty important as we are constantly posting news or funny items, but mostly, we also post many games and contests where you can win free stuff and you don’t want to miss that.

We do have a presence on other social media, like Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest and mostly everywhere. We easily get more interaction and participation on Facebook. I generally will post most things across all the platforms in order to really get my messages out as far as possible.

Other ways you can help me with making sure my posts get out is by commenting and liking them! I’ve read that the posts that get commented on the most will reach more people. I encourage you to plop your silly thoughts and your opinions on anything and everything I post.

Another thing I learned very early on is that a lot of Facebook Page Likes does not equal a lot of listeners to my station! I feel that is quite frustrating and sad. I shouldn’t be running a really awesome internet radio station and running a really awesome Facebook Page. I should be running a really awesome internet station that has a cool Facebook Page.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this and for setting Get Notifications on. If you need help or have better ideas, please comment here!

Spread the word!

Like so many things that happen in life, when you hear about it from a trusted friend or relative, you can trust that the message is true and meaningful. The same is true when you tell someone about something you’ve found to be valuable or useful. You tell your friends and family about a great deal or contest you saw online, a sale happening at your favorite store, a great coupon for a free meal at your favorite restaurant. This kind of communication is called word of mouth. For business owners, it’s the best form of advertising. One reason it’s the best is that unlike most other methods, word of mouth is entirely free! Another is that element of trust that is built-in to this powerful means of spreading the word.

As the owner and operator of America’s Country, one of my struggles is building a strong and loyal family of listeners who will always be there. As a natural entertainer, I get a lot of joy and get energized when I can see that something I create brings people their own joy and fun. America’s Country is my creative outlet. I love doing it! When I look at the stats and see that there are hundreds of you listening all day long and day after day, it kindles the fire inside me and makes me want to do more and to do it better.

I am inviting you all to spread the word. Talk to your family, friends and co-workers about America’s Country. Tell them your honest opinions about us. Express how you really enjoy listening to our Hot Country Hits all the time. Tell them we don’t play commercials. Tell them they can request songs and I’ll play them. If you follow us on Facebook, you see that I always ask for them to share the page on their own timelines and that is wonderful. I think you’ll agree that if you take a moment and tell someone face-to-face or on the phone (not a text), the communication and the effect will be more meaningful and lasting.

How to do you tell them to listen? I know that it’s not as easy as telling them to tune in to 101.3 on their car radio, but point them to either this site: kxrtonline.com or have them go to facebook.com/americascountry. If they are Tweeters, have them go to twitter.com/americascountry. There are many ways to find and listen to us.

Friends, I thank you in advance for your help with this. It means worlds to me that you would make such an effort. I wish you good luck. If you want to share your experiences, please comment below. If you have questions or concerns, email me: timmy@kxrtonline.com.

Thank you!

2010 or 2010?

Happy New Year! 2009 was a huge year for KXRT! We were able to upgrade so many things that continue to make KXRT the best internet radio station! We’ve gotten faster computers, better playback software, much better sound processing tools and a snazzy new live radio show! If all that could happen in 2009, I can’t begin to imagine what’s coming for 2010!

As for the title of today’s post, the discussion has been on-going for a while now as to whether we should call this year twenty-ten or two thousand ten or even oh ten. I seem to go back and forth between the first two choices but am leaning toward twenty-ten. What are your thoughts? (more…)
